Why Aren't You Practicing Law? What's Wrong With You? (How Do I Do It, Too?)
I'm proud of my accomplishments as a Texas litigator, especially as a female lawyer with an AV Preeminent Rating in Martindale. However, my dream was always to write -- I've been reading since the age of 2 .
Several years ago, a series of personal events and stressors led me to reevaluate my life, and I began simplifying things. Looking for a quality of life that I was missing. I found it with voluntary simplicity. And, while I may not have accomplished all on my Bucket List, I'm excited to be marking things off the list regularly.
Today, I'm happy to say that my dream of being a full-time published writer has come true. And, while my writing career continues to evolve, I can report that I've never been happier.
If you are an attorney desperate for change and feeling stuck, I'm happy to chat with you. Send me an email at reba@rebakennedy.com.
What is Optimized Content? What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)? Why Does My Writing Need to be Search Engine Optimized?
Writing for the web doesn't need anything extra if there's no need to have strangers find what you've written. If you have a personal blog to share family news, then SEO isn't necessary. However, if you want to build your brand, market to new clientele, or boost your reputation as an expert, then it's important that readers be able to find what you've placed on the web.
SEO is a complex set of tools and techniques designed to get content appearing in the top 5 or 10 results in any Google/Yahoo/Bing/MSN search. The words that are used are important. (See Google's free KeyWord tool). Key phrases are important, too. However, SEO goes into much more than this -- the use of font sizes and type faces; the location of words within a heading, the content in titles and subheadings, and much more are all components in a successful optimized writing project.
Why Should a Law Firm Care About Being on the Web?
The word "brand" isn't new to you. Brand names were there in your childhood, and you knew them.
Barbie. Band-Aids. Kellogg's Frosted Flakes.
Then, branding got bigger. There was the brand image versus the brand experience. There was attitude branding and brand management and the relatively recent "no brand" strategy.
If you aren't on the web at all, or if you've got a 5 year old website that has never been updated, you're communicating something. Your fellow attorneys may understand and appreciate your position. To the client, however, you may look dated, behind-the-times, or just plain cheap.
